Baseball Recap: Kankakee Valley Wins Going Away Against Rensselaer Central

Kankakee Valley barely beat Rensselaer Central the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Kougars put the hurt on the Bombers with a sharp 10-2 victory on Friday. The win continues a trend for the Kougars in their matchups with the Bombers: they've now won three in a row.

Elliott Patton looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out seven over four innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high.

On the hitting side, Declan Murr and Donny Stam did most of the damage at the plate: Murr went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base, while Stam went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run. That's the most hits Stam has posted since back in April of 2024. Another player making a difference was GrayLee Weaver, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two RBI, and one run.

Kankakee Valley kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.

Kankakee Valley's victory bumped their record up to 8-9-1. As for Rensselaer Central, their loss was their sixth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-12.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Kankakee Valley will challenge Benton Central at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Kougars are facing the Bison at the right time seeing as the Bison are stuck on a three-game losing streak. As for Rensselaer Central, they will take on Frontier at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
