Recap: North Surry Greyhounds vs. Mount Airy Granite Bears
The North Surry Greyhounds waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins but they left with five. They took down Mount Airy 44-28. Given North Surry's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 58th, while Mount Airy is ranked 400th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Leading North Surry to victory were Josie Tompkins and Sadie Badgett. Tompkins scored 13 points along with five rebounds, while Badgett scored 15 points along with six assists and four steals. Badgett has been hot recently, having posted 15 or more points the last three times she's played. Reece Niston was another key contributor, scoring four points along with four steals.
North Surry has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won seven of their last eight matches, which provided a nice bump to their 16-4 record this season. As for Mount Airy, their defeat was their third straight at home, which dropped their record down to 6-14.
The pair will face off at 6:15 p.m. on February 9th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully North Surry focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 15 on Wednesday. As for Mount Airy, they will head out on the road to square off against North Surry at 6:15 p.m. on Friday.
