Football Game Preview: Mound City Panthers vs. North Andrew Cardinals

The Mound City Panthers will challenge the North Andrew Cardinals at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Mound City has given up an average of 28.2 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Mound City is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Missouri's top teams: Rock Port, who was ranked first at the time (Mound City was ranked 14th). The Panthers came up short against the Blue Jays on Friday, falling 36-14. The Panthers were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 30-0.

Although Mound City took the loss, they still got scores from Liam Derr and Grady Knapp.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask North Andrew). They blew past Stanberry 78-50 on Friday. Considering the Cardinals have won three games by more than 27 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

North Andrew's win ended a four-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5. As for Mound City, their defeat ended a five-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 6-3.

Friday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Mound City has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 274.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like North Andrew struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 249.7 rushing yards. There's a good chance Friday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.

Everything came up roses for Mound City against North Andrew when the teams last played back in November of 2018, as the team secured a 68-28 victory. Will the Panthers repeat their success, or do the Cardinals have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
