Baseball Recap: Spanish River Drops Season-High Score on Wellington

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Spanish River). They blew past the Wellington Wolverines 15-8 on Wednesday. This was a revenge game for the Sharks: when they faced off against the Wolverines last Wednesday, they had to take a 10-5 defeat.

Andrew DeRosa made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, he gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jesse Chimenti, who scored four runs and stole a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Sean Beaulieu was another key player, scoring two runs while going 2-for-4.

Spanish River always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .538. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their OBP total in three consecutive matches.

Spanish River now has a winning record of 9-8. As for Wellington, their loss ended an eight-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 11-7.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spanish River will square off against West Boca Raton at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Wellington, they will face off against Park Vista at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.
