Basketball Recap: Akiak Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Akiak, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Friday. They snuck past the Kalskag Grizzly Bears with a 47-42 win on Friday. That's the third time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 65-45 win last Saturday.

Several Grizzly Bears players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emily Evan, who posted 16 points. Evan is becoming a predictor of Kalskag's success: when she posts at least 15 points the team is 2-1 (and 1-5 when she doesn't). Another player making a difference was Elizabeth Levi, who put up 13 points.

Akiak's victory was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 13-4. As for Kalskag, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-6 record this season.

Akiak won't have much time to rest: their next contest is against Aniak at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. Aniak will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Akiak surely won't give up without a fight. Kalskag does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
