Softball Recap: Hamilton Extends Winning Streak to Six

Hamilton had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 10.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it six on Monday. They put the hurt on the Oriskany Skyhawks with a sharp 10-3 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-1 two weeks ago.

Ellie Freeth spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Rihana Dye, who went 4-for-5 with three doubles, two runs, and one stolen base. Those three doubles gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Ellie Olsen, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Hamilton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least 11 hits in six consecutive contests.

Hamilton's victory bumped their record up to 11-1. As for Oriskany, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 4-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hamilton will welcome Herkimer at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Oriskany, they will face off against Canastota at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
