Softball Recap: Kermit Triumphs

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Pecos, Kermit was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Borger Bulldogs, sneaking past 11-9. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Yellow Jackets' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.

Aliha Saenz made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Saenz was also big at the plate, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mary Valenzuela, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one stolen base. That's the most runs she has posted since back in April of 2025. Karsen Butler also deserves some recognition as she got her first hit of the season.

Kermit always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .643. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Kermit's first win this season bumped their record up to 1-5-1. As for Borger, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-7.

Looking ahead, Kermit will square off against Floydada at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Whirlwinds' pitching crew has only allowed 1.1 runs per game this season, so the Yellow Jackets' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Borger, they will face off against Eastlake at 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
