Basketball Recap: Topeka Takes a Loss

Topeka lost against Emporia on February 4th, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Topeka Trojans had to suffer through a 64-35 loss at the hands of the Emporia Spartans. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Kansas basketball rankings (they are ranked 239th in Kansas, while the Spartans are ranked 64th in Kansas).

Emporia was led to victory by Rylan Crowell and Kobe Franklin. Crowell dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Franklin went 7-for-8 en route to 16 points. Those 11 boards gave Crowell a new career-high. Nolan Jacob was another key player, putting up seven points and six rebounds.

Topeka is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-17-1. That patch can't be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Emporia, they moved to 11-7 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak.

Topeka didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 72-42 defeat against Washburn Rural on the 25th. As for Emporia, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-65 victory against Manhattan on the 25th.
