Baseball Recap: New Mexico Military Institute Beats Sandia Prep for Their Fourth Straight Win

New Mexico Military Institute entered their tilt with Sandia Prep on Thursday with three consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with four. They were the clear victors by a 20-1 margin over the Sundevils. Considering the Colts have won nine matchups by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

New Mexico Military Institute got a massive performance out of Javier Yepiz Galindo, who went 4-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and three runs. Yepiz Galindo is becoming a predictor of the Colts' success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-6 when he doesn't). Grant Maloney was another key player, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI.

They weren't the only ones working in the home run department: New Mexico Military Institute lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in April of 2024.

New Mexico Military Institute's win bumped their record up to 13-6. As for Sandia Prep, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 7-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Mexico Military Institute will take on Bosque at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Sandia Prep, they will face off against Rehoboth Christian at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Sundevils' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Lynx have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
