Basketball Recap: Friday's Victory Is Brackenridge's Eighth in Last Ten Outings

Brackenridge took a 31-point defeat the last time they faced off against Seguin, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Brackenridge Eagles had just enough and edged the Seguin Matadors out 47-45. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 61-30 back in December of 2024.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Brackenridge to victory, but perhaps none more so than Layla Galvan, who posted 14 points along with eight boards and seven steals. The dominant performance gave Galvan a new career-high in boards. Sarah Arriaga was another key player, going 5 of 12 on her way to 13 points along with five boards and three steals.

Brackenridge smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 11 consecutive contests.

Seguin's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jazlyn Gil, who went 5 of 9 on her way to 15 points and five steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Faith Franklin, who put up 12 points in addition to five boards and five steals.

Brackenridge is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten matches, which provided a massive bump to their 16-13 record this season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 59.2 points per game. As for Seguin, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 12-17 record this season.

Brackenridge will square off against Edison at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Brackenridge is facing Edison at the right time seeing as Edison is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Seguin, they will face off against Sam Houston at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Sam Houston has 15 straight victories, Seguin has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the court.
