Baseball Recap: Wheatland Victorious

Wheatland hadn't done well against Lassen recently (they were 0-4 in their previous four matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Pirates walked away with a 7-4 win over the Grizzlies. For the Pirates, this counts as revenge for the 10-5 victory the Grizzlies walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2022.

Tucker Petersen made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 1-for-1 with two RBI and one run.

In other batting news, Adrian Villar and Jordan James did most of the damage at the plate: Villar went 1-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI, while James went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

Wheatland has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-6 record this season. As for Lassen, their loss dropped their record down to 11-8.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wheatland will head out to take on Bear River at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Bruins' pitching crew has only allowed 3.3 runs per game this season, so the Pirates' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Lassen, they will head out on the road to face off against Yreka at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
