Basketball Recap: Greer Drops Highest Score of Season Against Pickens

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Greer). They breezed by the Pickens Blue Flame to the tune of 103-56 on Friday. The Yellow Jackets have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 11 matches by 20 points or more this season.

Leading Greer to victory were Mylan Hames and Landon Valentine. Hames went 11 of 16 to rack up 25 points and three steals, while Valentine went 9 for 14 en route to 23 points and three steals. The dominant performance gave Valentine a new career-high in points. Another player making a difference was Jaiden Stevens, who posted 12 points and five rebounds.

Greer smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in seven consecutive contests.

Pickens' loss came despite strong showings from Brooks Dow and Gavin Mock. Dow went 8 of 10 on his way to 20 points, while Mock went 9 for 18 to rack up 20 points. That was a full 35.7% of Pickens' points, marking the third time in a row he's put up more than a third of the team's points.

Greer has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 games, which provided a massive bump to their 17-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.6 points over those games. As for Pickens, their loss was their eighth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 3-22.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Greer will welcome Southside at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Greer is facing Southside at the right time seeing as Southside is stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Pickens, they will be playing at home against Berea at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
