Football Recap: New Hampstead Starts Season with Victory Against South Effingham + How To Watch

New Hampstead had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the South Effingham Mustangs by a score of 14-6 on Friday. That's more bragging rights for the Phoenix, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Christian Kinlaw was a one-man wrecking crew as he rushed for 167 yards and two scores while picking up 8.0 yards per carry.

Kinlaw was just one part of a punishing run game: New Hampstead was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 206 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in August of 2024.

Although South Effingham took the loss, they still got scores from Danny Murtha and Maddox Vasquez.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Hampstead will venture away from home to take on Savannah Christian at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for South Effingham, they will have a little extra prep time after the loss as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on Toombs County at 8:00 p.m. on the 29th.
