Volleyball Recap: Newfield Comes Up Short

Newfield was the 3-1 winner over Northport when they last played one another back in September, but their luck changed this time around. The Wolverines fell 3-1 to the Tigers on Monday. The Wolverines just can't catch a break and have now endured four losses in a row.

The defeat didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: Northport scored at least 17 points in every set. The match finished with set scores of 25-20, 21-25, 25-17, 25-19.

Newfield's offense was headlined by Vitalina Paknis and Melissa Alfaro, who picked up seven kills apiece. They got some help from Lily Kolasinski and her 20 assists. Paknis also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Cameron Gamble, each putting up three.

Newfield's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Northport, their win (their first of the season) made their record 1-2.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Newfield is set to face off against their familiar foe Copiague at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Northport will challenge rival Connetquot at 4:15 p.m. on the 20th.
