Football Recap: Isreal Taylor's Menacing Defense Leads Wilson Prep over Mount Zion Christian Academy

The third road game was the charm for Wilson Prep, as they earned their first away win of the season. They blew past the Mount Zion Christian Academy Mighty Warriors 36-16 on Friday. The Tigers not only won on Friday, but they posted their biggest win since November 29, 2024 (when they won 56-22).

Travon Usher continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 194 yards on only 14 carries. That's the most rushing yards he has posted since back in November of 2024.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Wilson Prep was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 395 rushing yards. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their rushing yard total in four consecutive contests.

Wilson Prep didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. In fact, those interceptions all came courtesy of defensive juggernaut Isreal Taylor.

Despite the loss, Mount Zion Christian Academy still got an impressive performance from Sherrad Bennard III, who rushed for 197 yards on only 11 carries, and also threw for 137 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 passes. With that strong performance, Bennard III is now averaging an impressive 117.2 rushing yards per game.

Wilson Prep picked up their first road victory, bumping their record up to 2-5. As for Mount Zion Christian Academy, they suffered their first home loss, dropping their record down to 3-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming matchups. Wilson Prep will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Washington County at 7:00 p.m. on the 17th. As for Mount Zion Christian Academy, they will take on Hickory Grove Christian at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Lions' defense has only allowed 12 points per game this season, so the Mighty Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them.
