Basketball Recap: Miami Christian Finds Playoff Glory Versus Schoolhouse Prep

It can be hard to translate regular season success to the playoffs, but Miami Christian had no problem doing just that on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 52-49 win over the Schoolhouse Prep Wolfpack. For the Victors, this counts as revenge for the 54-49 victory the Wolfpack walked away with the last time they faced one another back in February of 2024.

Evelyn Isaac was her usual excellent self, going 6 for 9 to rack up 14 points and seven boards. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Maria De Gracia, who posted ten points in addition to six rebounds and three steals.

Miami Christian was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Schoolhouse Prep only racked up seven assists.

Despite the defeat, Schoolhouse Prep saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Lya Gonzalez earned 25 points along with five assists and five boards. The matchup was Gonzalez's 21st in a row with at least 15 points. Kalem Preston was another key player, putting up five points in addition to 11 rebounds and five steals.

Miami Christian pushed their record up to 15-11 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 55.3 points over those games. As for Schoolhouse Prep, their loss ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 15-8.

Miami Christian and Schoolhouse Prep should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Florida Rankings. Miami Christian will take on Boca Raton Christian at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th up 298 places (71 vs. 369). Miami Christian is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 53.2 points per game this season. Similarly, Schoolhouse Prep (ranked 120th) will meet Atlantic Christian (ranked 319th) at 7:00 p.m. on February 13th.
