Basketball Recap: Axtell Takes a Loss

Axtell lost against Amherst back in December of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Axtell Wildcats had to suffer through a 67-39 loss at the hands of the Amherst Broncos. While losing is never fun, the Wildcats can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 172nd, while the Broncos are ranked 35th).

Axtell lost despite a true team effort on offense, the best among them being Jacob Halvorsen, who posted 11 points and seven rebounds. Halvorsen has been hot, having also posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. Brandt Modlin was another key player, putting up nine points and six rebounds.

Axtell now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Amherst, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

After both having extra time off, Axtell and Kenesaw will shake off the cobwebs and challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on January 3, 2025. Axtell is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.9 points per game this season. As for Amherst, they will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Gothenburg at 7:30 p.m. on January 3, 2025.
