The La Vega Pirates are taking a road trip to square off against the Connally Cadets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (La Vega has three straight victories, Connally has six straight losses), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
On Thursday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, La Vega beat Robinson 31-27.

La Vega's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jabarie Thornton, who picked up 104 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Elbert Jones handled things on the ground, rushing for 97 yards.
Meanwhile, Connally started off well but failed to capitalize on an early lead against Lorena. They took a 27-21 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Leopards on Friday. While the Cadets didn't get the win, they did start the game off strong, beating the Leopards 7-0 in the first quarter.
La Vega will have to contain Braeden Ford as he made an impact in Connally's last game. He rushed for 148 yards and three scores. With that strong performance, Ford is now averaging an impressive 101.9 rushing yards per game.
Connally didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of KD Linville and Adrian Hernandez.
Connally's defeat dropped their record down to 2-6. As for La Vega, their victory bumped their record up to 6-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game as the two teams have no problem gaining yardage. La Vega has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 364.9 total yards per game. However, it's not like Connally struggles in that department as they've been averaging 396 total yards. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
Everything came up roses for La Vega against Connally in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 31-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Pirates since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
