Waukomis had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the eight-run drubbing they dealt Carnegie on Thursday. The Chiefs put the hurt on the Wildcats with a sharp 12-4 victory. Considering the Chiefs have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Waukomis' win bumped their record up to 14-7. As for Carnegie, their loss ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 10-8.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Waukomis beat the Wildcats by a score of 10-2 later that day.
