Baseball Recap: North Platte Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Jaxon Peters and Landan Greeno

North Platte extended their losing streak to eight on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 3-12 in the process. They might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 9-7 to the Kearney Bearcats, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The Bulldogs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bearcats apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in April of 2024.

Landan Greeno and Jaxon Peters stepped up to the plate in a big way. Greeno went 2-for-3 with two runs, while Peters went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

As for Kearney, they pushed their record up to 10-7 with the victory, which was their ninth straight at home dating back to last season. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games.

On Kearney's side, Griffin Novacek was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Novacek has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devin Carrell, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those three hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Bryce Andersen, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two runs.

Coincidentally, North Platte and Kearney will both be playing Lincoln North Star the next time they take the field. The Bulldogs will host the Navigators at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Bearcats will play them later in the day, at 5:30 p.m.
