Basketball Recap: Hiawatha Drops Highest Score of Season Against Riley County

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hiawatha). They strolled past the Riley County Falcons with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 73-58. The team's explosion on offense also rewarded the Red Hawks with their most commanding win of the season.

Defeat or not, Riley County got some senior leadership from Brett Hopper and Eli Harmison. Hopper went 8 of 15 to rack up 18 points and six boards, while Harmison posted 11 points and six rebounds. Hopper continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Trey Webber was another key player, putting up six points and three steals.

The win made it two in a row for Hiawatha and bumps their season record up to 6-9. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 60.0 points over those games. As for Riley County, they have been struggling recently as they've lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 4-11 record this season.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Hiawatha will welcome Holton at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Riley County, they will be playing at home against Wabaunsee at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Riley County knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past three games -- so hopefully Wabaunsee likes a good challenge.
