Basketball Recap: Alex Helton's Big Game Can't Quite Lead Forestview over South Point

Forestview lost against South Point back in January and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Forestview Jaguars fell just short of the South Point Red Raiders by a score of 69-66.

Forestview's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Alex Helton, who went 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Quinton Rybczyk, who went 5 of 8 en route to 16 points and eight assists.

Jaishawn Woods was his usual excellent self, going 13 for 24 on his way to 32 points and six rebounds for South Point. That makes it three consecutive games in which Woods has scored at least a third of South Point's points. Another player making a difference was OB Lowery Jr., who went 6 of 12 en route to 17 points.

Forestview has been struggling recently as they've lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 8-12 record this season. As for South Point, their win bumped their record up to 11-9.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Forestview Jaguars duke it out with the North Gaston Wildcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Forestview is facing North Gaston at the right time seeing as North Gaston is stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for South Point, they will square off against Stuart W. Cramer at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. South Point knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past seven games -- so hopefully Stuart W. Cramer likes a good challenge.
