Softball Recap: Six Straight Home Victories for Sterling

Sterling's game on Tuesday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Thursday. They won by a run and slipped past the East Moline United Panthers 6-5. This was a revenge game for the Golden Warriors: when they faced off against the Panthers back in April, they had to take a 9-8 defeat.

Lily Martinez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She pitched seven innings while giving up just one earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.

Martinez wasn't the only one making solid contact as six players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Marley Sechrest, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Sterling's win was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-5. Those home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.2 runs over those games. As for East Moline United, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-8.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Sterling is set to take on their familiar foe Galesburg at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, East Moline United will face off against rival Rock Island at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Panthers 3.8, the Rocks 2.5) so any runs scored will be well earned.
