Basketball Game Preview: Roxana Shells vs. Nokomis Redskins

The Roxana Shells will take on the Nokomis Redskins at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this matchup.

Roxana's tournament run continued when they took on Marquette Catholic on Thursday. Roxana fell to Marquette Catholic 53-49. The Shells have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite their defeat, Roxana saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Sean Maberry, who almost dropped a double-double on 11 points and nine boards, was perhaps the best of all. Trenton Hollaway was another key player, going 5 for 8 en route to 14 points.

Even though they lost, Roxana smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least nine offensive boards in six consecutive games.

Meanwhile, Nokomis was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Thursday as they fell 30-26 to Greenville. The Redskins haven't had much luck with the Comets recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.

Roxana's loss dropped their record down to 8-12. As for Nokomis, their defeat dropped their record down to 10-13.

Roxana beat Nokomis 38-27 when the teams last played back in January of 2016. Will Roxana repeat their success, or does Nokomis have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
