Preview: Peekskill Red Devils vs. Walter Panas Panthers
The Peekskill Red Devils will head out on the road to face off against the Walter Panas Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Peekskill is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
Peekskill fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Scarsdale on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Raiders by a score of 47-45. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Peekskill has suffered yet this season.
Despite the loss, Peekskill saw an underclassman step up: Azarriyah Ashley scored 24 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Ashley has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jayla Smith, who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Walter Panas put the finishing touches on their fourth blowout victory of the season on Thursday. They breezed by John Jay on the road to the tune of 67-35. Given Walter Panas' advantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 32nd, while John Jay is ranked 200th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Peekskill now has a losing record at 6-7. As for Walter Panas, their victory bumped their record up to 9-2.
Peekskill was taken down by Walter Panas 75-25 in their previous matchup back in December of 2019. Can Peekskill avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
