The Howell Highlanders will take on the Algonac Muskrats at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Howell is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
Howell lost 9-3 to Franklin on Tuesday.
Kate Anderson was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed six innings while giving up just two earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits.
At the plate, Howell saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Zoey Overton, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.
Algonac came out on top against Almont on Thursday thanks in part to the team's impressive seven-run fourth inning. The Muskrats put the hurt on the Raiders with a sharp 13-3 victory.
Morgan Reams made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched six innings while giving up three earned runs off seven hits. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 11 consecutive appearances. She was even better at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, one stolen base, and one run. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April.
In other batting news, Autumn Dueweke was incredible, going 3-for-5 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That's the most hits she has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Anna Murray, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, one run, and one double.
Algonac hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team has now struck out at least five batters in eight consecutive contests.
Algonac is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a massive bump to their 13-11 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.4 runs over those games. As for Howell, their defeat dropped their record down to 16-11.
Algonac's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Howell has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.9 hits per game. It's a different story for Algonac, though, as they've been averaging 8.7 hits. Given Howell's sizable advantage in that area, the Muskrats will need to find a way to close that gap.
