Preview: Hough Huskies vs. Mallard Creek Mavericks
Hough and Mallard Creek are an even 5-5 against one another since October of 2017, but not for long. The Hough Huskies will head out on the road to face off against the Mallard Creek Mavericks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hough will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Last Friday, Hough faced West Charlotte in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Hough enjoyed a cozy 23-7 victory over West Charlotte.
Among those leading the charge was Jeremiah Jones, who rushed for 93 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Hough also got a significant boost from Will Jones, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 97 yards.
Meanwhile, Mallard Creek got themselves on the board against Harding University on Friday, but Harding University never followed suit. They took their contest on the road with ease, bagging a 53-0 victory over the Rams. Given Mallard Creek's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 12th, while Harding University is ranked 289th), the result wasn't exactly an upset.
Their wins bumped Hough to 6-1 and Mallard Creek to 4-3.
Hough was able to grind out a solid victory over Mallard Creek in their previous meeting back in November of 2022, winning 16-6. The rematch might be a little tougher for Hough since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
