Basketball Recap: Evans Takes a Loss

Evans was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They were dealt a 48-18 loss at the hands of the Horizon Hawks. While losing is never fun, the Trojans can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 424th, while the Hawks are ranked 93rd).

Horizon had a senior duo take command as Kassandra Cortez went 6 for 11 on her way to 14 points along with five steals and three blocks and Sofia Duque posted eight points and four steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Cortez has scored all season. Sienna Astorino was another key player, putting up seven points.

Evans' defeat dropped their record down to 6-14. As for Horizon, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-8.

The two teams are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. Evans has already played their next contest (against Wekiva), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Horizon will square off against Bartow on Thursday. Horizon is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 58.4 points per game this season.
