Football Recap: Hillsboro's Rushing Dominance Continues

Hillsboro had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 22.5 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Friday. They enjoyed a cozy 35-21 win over Litchfield/Mt. Olive. For the Hiltoppers, this counts as revenge for the 28-0 victory Litchfield/Mt. Olive walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Amony Anderson and Tytin Wells. Anderson rushed for 208 yards and one touchdown while picking up 9.0 yards per carry while Wells rushed for 156 yards and three TDs. Those three rushing touchdowns gave Wells a new career-high.

Hillsboro was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 428 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 185 rushing yards in 11 consecutive contests dating back to last season.

On the defensive side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Hillsboro's defense and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Wells, Joel Malloy, and Kamdin Civitate, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Hillsboro now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Litchfield/Mt. Olive, they are on a ten-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-7.

Hillsboro didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 35-27 defeat against Carlinville on the 17th. As for Litchfield/Mt. Olive, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next game, a 63-21 loss against Pana on the 17th.
