Football Game Preview: Pinon Eagles vs. Holbrook Roadrunners

Pinon hasn't had much luck against Holbrook recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Eagles will take on the Roadrunners at 7:00 p.m. Pinon's defense has only allowed 12.8 points per game this season, so Holbrook's offense will have their work cut out for them.

Pinon's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against Chinle on Friday. They had to suffer through a 28-0 loss at the hands of the Wildcats. The matchup marked the first time this year in which the Eagles were not able to get on the board.

Meanwhile, Holbrook was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap on Saturday as they fell 28-24 to Scottsdale Preparatory Academy. The Roadrunners were right on the edge of victory: they outscored the Spartans in the fourth quarter 8-0.

Pinon will need to focus on slowing down Simeon Shaw, one of several Holbrook players who made an impact when they last played. He picked up 201 receiving yards and three scores. Shaw really caught the secondary sleeping when he pulled down a catch that went for 76 yards. Holbrook also got a significant boost from Matthias Montijo, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 116 yards.

Even if they lost, Holbrook's defense still kept up the pressure with seven sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Gage Jones and Devin Ambrose, who racked up six sacks between them. Ambrose also set a new season-high mark in total tackles with nine.

Pinon's loss dropped their record down to 3-2. As for Holbrook, their defeat dropped their record down to an identical 3-2.

Pinon couldn't quite finish off Holbrook in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 and fell 26-24. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Roadrunners' Darren Justman, who rushed for 64 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries, and also threw for 130 yards and a pair of TDs.
