Basketball Recap: Ironwood Eagles vs. Willow Canyon Wildcats
The Ironwood Eagles's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They had to suffer through a rough 75-42 loss at the hands of Willow Canyon. Ironwood has not had much luck with the Wildcats recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Sarah Karnitz was her usual excellent self, going 11 for 15 from beyond the arc en route to 34 points and 2 assists for Willow Canyon. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Karnitz has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Keke Helman, who scored 15 points along with seven assists and two steals.
Ironwood's defeat was their tenth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-18. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 26.7 points per game. As for Willow Canyon, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 17-7 record this season.
Ironwood does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Willow Canyon and the Coyotes will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Centennial focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 17 on Friday.
