Softball Recap: Northampton Takes a Loss

Northampton extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 1-5 in the process. They lost 27-0 to the Greenfield Green Wave. The Blue Devils were not able to make up for their defeat to the Green Wave from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

As for Greenfield, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-4 record this season. That 27 run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Greenfield's part, MacKenzie Paulin made a splash no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 over five innings pitched. Paulin has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than nine strikeouts any time she's pitched this season. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 4-for-5 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Anna Bucala was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with five runs and five RBI. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high. Sarah McCloud was another key player, going 3-for-4 with four runs, two stolen bases, and two doubles.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Northampton will take on Mahar Regional at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Blue Devils are facing the Senators at the right time seeing as the Senators are stuck on a five-game losing streak. As for Greenfield, they will square off against Pittsfield at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Generals will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something the Green Wave surely won't give up without a fight.
