Basketball Game Preview: Meridian Mustangs vs. Millbrook Pioneers

The Meridian Mustangs and the Millbrook Pioneers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. Meridian is coming into the game hot, having won their last eight games.

Meridian is headed in fresh off scoring the most points they have all season. They claimed a resounding 69-14 victory over Manassas Park. The Mustangs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won seven matches by 20 points or more this season.

Meridian found their leader in sophomore Charlotte Lieu, who went 6 for 9 on her way to 15 points and five steals. That's the most steals Lieu has posted since back in January of 2024. Nora Stufft was another key player, almost dropping a double-double on 11 points and nine rebounds.

Meanwhile, Millbrook made easy work of Liberty on Thursday and carried off a 46-26 win. Given the Pioneers' advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 103rd, while the Eagles are ranked 289th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Meridian pushed their record up to 12-3 with the victory, which was their seventh straight at home dating back to last season. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.9 points per game. As for Millbrook, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season.

Meridian came up short against Millbrook in their previous matchup back in December of 2024, falling 48-40. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of Millbrook's Jaliah Jackson, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and 14 boards.
