Baseball Recap: Friday's Win Is Firth's Tenth in Last 11 Outings

Firth had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They walked away with a 9-6 win over the Challis Vikings on Friday. That's the fifth time they've managed to beat them this season, with their most recent victory being a 14-6 win last Saturday.

Darrell Vasquez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off seven hits. What's more, he posted four strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. He is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last six games he's played.

In other batting news, Quinton Hall and Michael Adams did most of the damage at the plate: Hall went 3-for-4 with three runs, one double, and one RBI, while Adams went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Brycen Andersen was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Firth kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in 11 consecutive matchups.

Firth is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 11 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Challis, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 16-10-1.

Firth didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, a 10-0 defeat against Nampa Christian on the 9th. Hopefully Challis paid attention to the Cougars' match: the next time they hit the field, they'll take on the Cougars at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
