Recap: Gardendale Rockets vs. Oxford Yellow Jackets
It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Gardendale Rockets can now relate to. They were outmatched by the Yellow Jackets on the road and fell 79-52. Gardendale was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 51-25.
Oxford's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Xaionna Whitfield, who scored 25 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Whitfield is on a roll when it comes to points, as she's now scored 15 or more in the last four games she's played. JaMea Gaston was another key contributor, shooting 6-for-8 from deep and almost dropping a double-double on 20 points and nine assists.
Gardendale's defeat dropped their record down to 17-12. As for Oxford, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 17-13.
Gardendale does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Oxford, they will square off against Shades Valley at TBD on Friday. Shades Valley is coming into the match with four straight wins on the road, so Oxford is out to stop a squad with plenty of momentum.
