Baseball Game Preview: Hazelwood West Wildcats vs. Northwest Lions

Hazelwood West hasn't had much luck against Northwest recently, but that could start to change on Thursday. The Wildcats will square off against the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Hazelwood West has given up an average of 8 runs per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Hazelwood West fell victim to Parkway South and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They lost 14-0 to the Patriots. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Hazelwood West saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Hobson, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one double.

Meanwhile, after soaring to 12 runs the game before, Northwest was a bit more limited in their matchup on Tuesday. They took a 7-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of Webster Groves.

Northwest also got a good showing from Gio Cignetti, who tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave Cignetti a new career-low in walks (zero).

Hazelwood West's loss dropped their record down to 11-10. As for Northwest, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-10 record this season.

Hazelwood West came up short against Northwest in their previous meeting back in March, falling 7-2. Can the Wildcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
