Football Game Preview: Lowellville Rockets vs. Waterloo Vikings

The Lowellville Rockets are taking a road trip to take on the Waterloo Vikings at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Lowellville has given up an average of 32 points per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Having struggled with six losses in a row, Lowellville turned things around against Jackson-Milton on Friday. They skirted past the Bluejays 38-35.

Anthony Kacir was his usual excellent self, picking up 46 receiving yards and 11 touchdowns, while also rushing for 45 yards. He didn't just play on offense: he also picked up a sack and made four total tackles. Ricky Willrich was another key player, throwing for 307 yards and four TDs.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Lowellville was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 224 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've posted since back in November of 2024.

On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Lowellville's defensive line and their three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Kacir, Landen Tych, and Nate Rouns, who each picked up one sack apiece.

Meanwhile, Waterloo was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their seventh straight defeat. They had to suffer through a 47-0 loss at the hands of Western Reserve. The game marked the first time this year in which the Vikings were not able to get on the board.

Lowellville's win was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-4 and their overall record up to 2-6. As for Waterloo, their loss dropped their record down to 0-7.

Lowellville strolled past Waterloo in their previous meeting back in October of 2024 by a score of 56-40. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Rockets since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
