Football Recap: Evangel Christian Extends Winning Streak to Two

If Lighthouse HomeSchool wanted to avenge their loss from the last time they played Evangel Christian, they should've done a better job of containing Eli Black. The Lightning blew past the Warriors 50-14 on Friday with plenty of help from Black, who rushed for 82 yards and a pair of scores on only nine carries, and also threw for 159 yards and two TDs. His passing game has become a key predictor of Evangel Christian's success: the team is 2-1 when his passer rating is 110 or higher, but only 1-2 otherwise.

Trey Hope was Black's top target, picking up 64 receiving yards and one touchdown, while also punching in one TD on the ground. Hope also deserves a shoutout for his performance on D, forcing one fumble, making one tackle (0.5 for loss), and defending one pass.

Although Lighthouse HomeSchool took the loss, they still got scores from JADEN COSPER and HENRY SMITH.

The victory made it two in a row for Evangel Christian and bumps their season record up to 3-3. Those wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 14 points in those games. As for Lighthouse HomeSchool, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-3.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Evangel Christian will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Southern Christian at 7:00 p.m. on October 10. As for Lighthouse HomeSchool, they will welcome Freedom C at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Cowboys' defense has only allowed 13.6 points per game this season, so the Warriors' offense will have their work cut out for them.
