Softball Game Preview: Foran Lions vs. Sacred Heart Academy

Foran and Sacred Heart Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2015, but likely not for long. The Lions will welcome Sacred Heart Academy at 3:45 p.m. on Friday. The timing is sure in Foran's favor as the team sits on nine straight wins at home (dating back to last season) while Sacred Heart Academy has been banged up by ten consecutive losses on the road also dating back to last season.

Foran is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Connecticut's top teams: East Haven, who was ranked 23rd at the time (Foran was ranked third). The Lions' pitcher stepped up to hand the Yellowjackets a 10-0 shutout on Tuesday. Considering the Lions have won six matchups by more than seven runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Not much got past Abigail Corris, who gave up just two hits and racked up 17 Ks to keep East Haven off the board. Those 17 strikeouts set a new season-high mark for Corris.

On the hitting side, Foran's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Norah Bove, who went 2-for-4 with two runs and one stolen base. Another was Nyla Jaser, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one RBI.

Foran was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .406. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.

Shelton hit Sacred Heart Academy with a four-run first inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. Sacred Heart Academy lost 10-1 to Shelton.

Foran's victory bumped their record up to 7-0. As for Sacred Heart Academy, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-5.

Foran couldn't quite get it done against Sacred Heart Academy when the teams last played back in May of 2021 as they fell 13-9. Can the Lions avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
