Football Recap: Independence Starts off Right with Win over Woodgrove + How To Watch

Independence gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Thursday. They secured a 27-21 W over the Woodgrove Wolverines. That's more bragging rights for Independence, who also won the pair's last head-to-head.

Independence was led to victory by Nick Nassib and Chase Alvarez. Nassib rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 14 carries, while Alvarez gained 169 total yards and a touchdown. Those two rushing touchdowns gave Nassib a new career-high.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Independence was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 278 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Woodgrove only rushed for 120 rushing yards.

Despite the defeat, Woodgrove had strong showings from Colton Dabkowski, who threw for 204 yards and one TD, and Joey Ridolfi, who gained 125 total yards.

Independence wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next contest, a 21-20 loss against Potomac Falls on the 5th. As for Woodgrove, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 70-49 win against John Champe on the 5th.
