Baseball Game Preview: Heritage Pride vs. John Champe Knights

The Heritage Pride will head out on the road to challenge the John Champe Knights at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. John Champe took a loss in their last contest and will be looking to turn the tables on Heritage, who comes in off a win.

While Heritage's win against Potomac Falls wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Pride won by a run and slipped past the Panthers 3-2. The Pride haven't had any issues with the Panthers recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

Davin Crain spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on four hits. He is becoming a predictor of Heritage's success: when he allows at most two earned runs the team is 2-1 (and 0-4 when he doesn't).

At the plate, Heritage saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aaron Van Tuyle, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. That's the most runs Van Tuyle has posted since back in May of 2024.

Meanwhile, John Champe suffered their closest loss since May 7, 2024 on Tuesday. They fell just short of Stone Bridge by a score of 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Knights in their meetings with the Bulldogs: they've now lost three in a row.

Heritage's win bumped their record up to 2-5. As for John Champe, their loss was their first of the season and makes their record 3-1.

Heritage suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to John Champe in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can the Pride avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
