Softball Recap: Illini West Comes Up Short

Illini West fell victim to Seymour and their airtight pitching crew on Tuesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Indians. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Chargers' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

McKenzie Yeakey was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she struck out six batters over six innings while giving up four earned runs off seven hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Illini West saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kennedy Gunning, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Illini West has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-17 record this season. As for Seymour, they now have a winning record of 11-10-1.

Coming up, Illini West will face off against Hamilton at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Seymour, they will take on West Central co-op [Winchester-Bluffs] at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Indians are facing the Cougars at the right time seeing as the Cougars are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
