Recap: McAllen Memorial Mustangs vs. McAllen Bulldogs
The McAllen Memorial Mustangs waltzed into their game on Tuesday with three straight wins but they left with four. They managed a 53-47 victory over McAllen. That's two games straight that McAllen Memorial has won by exactly six points.
McAllen Memorial's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Eva Villarreal, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Madison Borjas was another key contributor, scoring 17 points along with three steals.
Despite the loss, McAllen had strong showings from Dariana Luna, who scored six points along with 15 rebounds and three steals, and Lola Mallard, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds. Mallard continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Auguste, who scored two points.
Even though they lost, McAllen smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as McAllen Memorial only pulled down seven offensive rebounds.
McAllen Memorial's victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 19-11. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.3 points per game. As for McAllen, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 16-15.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. McAllen Memorial will take on Sharyland at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Sharyland focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 33 on Tuesday. As for McAllen, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Pioneer at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
