Basketball Recap: Laton Takes a Loss

Laton lost against Kings Christian back in November of 2024 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Laton Mustangs lost 54-31 to the Kings Christian Crusaders. The Mustangs have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

When it comes to explaining why Laton lost, don't look at Jesus Bocanegra. Despite the final result, he went 8 for 12 en route to 16 points and seven boards. Those 16 points gave Bocanegra a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Yann Jimenez, who posted ten points in addition to five rebounds and three steals.

Even though they lost, Laton smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive matches.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Kings Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Andrew Ortega, who went 6 of 10 on his way to 16 points and three steals. Ortega has been hot, having posted three or more steals the last six times he's played. Elyas Miro also deserves some recognition as he posted his first block of the season.

Laton's defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Kings Christian, the victory (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 15-3.

Laton has already played their next game (against Riverdale Christian), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. Kings Christian has already played their next contest, a 44-34 loss against Kennedy on the 18th.
