Football Recap: Spalding Comes Up Short at Home Against Central

Spalding unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They were outmatched by the Central Lions and fell 37-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Jaguars of the 49-15 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in August of 2024.

Despite the loss, Spalding still got an impressive performance from Camauri Berry, who rushed for 107 yards on only 12 carries. Berry got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 64 yards.

Jonaz Walton was nothing short of spectacular for Central: he picked up 99 receiving yards and one score, and also rushed for 123 yards on only ten carries. Walton's rushing production has been exceptional recently as that marked his third straight game with at least 123 rushing yards dating back to last season. Jr Harris was another key player, throwing for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Spalding will venture away from home to take on Lovejoy at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Central, they will head out to challenge Oxford at 8:00 p.m. on Friday.
