Softball Game Preview: Linn Wildcats vs. Southern Boone Eagles

The Linn Wildcats will face off against the Southern Boone Eagles at 9:30 a.m. on Friday. Linn will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.

Linn proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by seven) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Eugene 3-2.

Sophia Voss spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up six Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Linn's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Heslie Higginbotham, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one double.

Linn hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least four batters in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matchups, Southern Boone finally came back down to earth on Thursday. They came up short against Father Tolton, falling 12-0. The Eagles' loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Southern Boone's defeat dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Linn, their victory bumped their record up to 21-4.

Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Friday. Linn hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.4 home runs per game. However, it's not like Southern Boone struggles in that department as they've been averaging 0.7 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.

Linn skirted past Southern Boone 4-3 in their previous matchup back in September of 2022. Will the Wildcats repeat their success, or do the Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
