Softball Game Preview: New Braunfels Unicorns vs. Wagner Thunderbirds

New Braunfels has gone a perfect 10-0 against Wagner recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Friday. New Braunfels is taking a road trip to take on Wagner at 7:00 p.m. New Braunfels is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.

New Braunfels had to skate by with only a two-run margin when they last took the field, which might have inspired the 13-run drubbing they dealt Pieper on Thursday. New Braunfels never let Pieper get on the board and left with a 13-0 victory. Considering the Unicorns have won eight games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

New Braunfels got a massive performance out of Kaiden Esparza, who fired off two home runs and five RBI while going 2-for-4. Those two home runs gave Esparza a new career-high. Mikayla Wilson was another key player, scoring four runs and stealing four bases while going 5-for-5.

Meanwhile, Wagner was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their ninth straight loss. They came up short against Pieper, falling 11-0.

Wagner's defeat dropped their record down to 4-14. As for New Braunfels, their win ended a three-game drought on the road and puts them at 15-5.

Wagner's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: New Braunfels hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .411. It's a different story for Wagner, though, as they've only averaged .202. Will they be able to contain New Braunfels' hitters?

New Braunfels took their victory against Wagner in their previous matchup back in February by a conclusive 17-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Braunfels since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
