Soccer Game Preview: Sierra vs. Caruthers

The Sierra Chieftains will head out on the road to face off against the Caruthers Blue Raiders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. The squads are rolling into the game with opposing streaks: Sierra has struggled recently with 13 defeats in a row, while Caruthers will arrive with six straight victories.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for Sierra's offense. They came up short against Riverdale on Tuesday, falling 14-0. While losing is never fun, the Chieftains can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California soccer rankings (they are ranked 1256th, while the Cowboys are ranked 321st).

Meanwhile, Caruthers kept a clean sheet against Fowler on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Redcats by a score of 2-0.

Caruthers' win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 8-12. The wins came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 17 goals over those four contests. As for Sierra, their loss dropped their record down to 0-13.

Sierra suffered a grim 19-0 defeat to Caruthers in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Sierra avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
