Softball Game Preview: Heights Bulldogs vs. Bellaire Cardinals

Heights and Bellaire are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2018, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will look to defend their home field on Friday against the Cardinals at 6:00 p.m. Heights is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last five games.

While Heights' victory against Lamar wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Bulldogs won by a run and slipped past the Texans 4-3.

Sara Paniagua spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Helen Maddux was incredible, going 1-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three games, Bellaire finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell just short of Cesar E. Chavez by a score of 3-1. The Cardinals' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Heights pushed their record up to 11-7 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Bellaire, they now have a losing record of 11-12-1.
