While Battle's win against Smith-Cotton wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Spartans skirted past the Tigers 3-2. The victory continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won six in a row.

Battle had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first two sets, they turned around to win the next three. The final score came out to 23-25, 16-25, 25-23, 25-14, 15-13.

Their offense was headlined by Ada Grzella-Skibiski and Nadine Ira, who picked up 13 kills apiece. They got some help from Tristn Zellner-Evers and her 33 assists. Ellie Boyer controlled things from the service line, finishing with two aces.

When it comes to explaining why Smith-Cotton lost on Monday, don't look at Piper Cantrell. Despite the final result, she had 25 digs and two aces. Cantrell is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last six games she's played.

Battle's win bumped their record up to 13-11. As for Smith-Cotton, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 9-15-3 record this season.

Battle has already played their next match, a 3-0 loss against Fatima on the 8th. As for Smith-Cotton, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 3-0 defeat against Oak Grove on the 8th.
